It’s Apple Event week, and on the final day Apple has organized a special event. So far this week, Apple has already announced six new products: the iPhone 17e, iPad Air M4, MacBook Air M5, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max, and the new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR. Definitely an exciting week for Apple fans. nice product announcements and I wrote a blog article about it here and here.
There had already been some rumors about Apple working on a lower-cost MacBook, and interestingly, Apple even hinted at the possible name themselves: MacBook Neo.
Now it’s official. Apple has announced the new MacBook Neo, a more affordable MacBook that comes in four different colors. Let’s take a closer look at what Apple has introduced.

Apple has officially introduced the new MacBook Neo, a completely new Mac designed to make the Mac experience more accessible to more people. What immediately stands out is the familiar Apple design. A sleek aluminum body available in four beautiful colors: blush, indigo, silver, and a fresh citrus.
The MacBook Neo features a bright 13-inch Liquid Retina display, bringing photos, videos, and apps to life with sharp detail and vibrant colors. Inside, it’s powered by the A18 Pro chip, the same as on the iPhone 17 Pro, which should makes everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, editing photos, or working with apps feel fast. Apple says it can be up to 50% faster for everyday tasks compared to many popular PCs.

Another highlight is the all-day battery life of up to 16 hours, meaning you can work, study, or relax without constantly worrying about charging. I wonder how this will be in pratical, but its nice that a MacBook with this price range has a long battery life.

Apple has also included a 1080p FaceTime camera, good microphones, immersive speakers on the side with Spatial Audio, the Magic Keyboard, and the large Multi-Touch trackpad, so the experience still feels very much like a full Mac. One thing I really like is that the keyboards on the different MacBook Neo models are color-matched to the body.

1080p Camera

The MacBook Neo also comes with a solid setup for video calls and entertainment. It features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera that delivers clear and vibrant video, making meetings and calls feel more natural. The dual microphones help reduce background noise so your voice comes through clearly, while the dual speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos provide immersive sound whether you’re watching a movie, listening to music, or working in apps like GarageBand. I personally think that 1080p is more than enough for most people, so its a very welcome addition to this new MacBook.

Liquid Retina Display

The MacBook Neo features a beautiful 13-inch Liquid Retina display with sharp resolution, up to 500 nits of brightness, and support for 1 billion colors, making text crisp and images vibrant. Apple has also added an anti-reflective coating, which makes the screen comfortable to use in different lighting conditions, whether you’re watching a movie, editing photos, or jumping on your video call.
For a lower-cost MacBook, this is honestly a really impressive display and easily one of the highlights of the MacBook Neo. And I am a fan of the colors. Blush, Indigo, Silver and Citrus.

A18 Pro Chip

At the heart of the new MacBook Neo is the A18 Pro chip, the same processor that powers the iPhone 17 Pro. It gives this laptop plenty of speed for everyday things like browsing the web, working in apps, editing photos, or streaming content.
What’s impressive is how capable this chip is. Apple says it can be up to 50% faster for everyday tasks compared to many popular PCs, and even significantly faster for things like AI features or photo editing. The built-in GPU also handles graphics nicely, whether you’re playing games or working on creative projects.
Another nice touch is that the MacBook Neo runs completely silent, since it’s fanless. Overall, the A18 Pro gives this MacBook more than enough power for daily use, while still staying efficient and quiet.

My Thoughts

Personally, I think the MacBook Neo looks like a really interesting addition to the Mac lineup. The 13-inch Liquid Retina display is a great choice for a more affordable MacBook. It still gives you that bright, sharp Apple display experience, which makes everything from browsing to watching videos look really nice. I also like that Apple included a 1080p camera, which is great for video calls and something you’ll appreciate if you spend time on meetings or FaceTime.

Another thing that stands out to me is the new color lineup. Apple clearly wants this MacBook to feel fresh and fun, and the colors really help with that. The blush color in particular feels like it could become a very popular option. I wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up being the hot seller of the lineup.
Overall, the MacBook Neo feels like Apple is bringing the Mac experience to more people, but still keeping many of the details that make a Mac feel special.
