1. Type during a phone call with RTT
Have you ever wondered what the RTT icon on your iPhone does during a phone call?
RTT stands for Real-Time Text. It lets you type during a phone call instead of speaking. The other person can see your message appear as you type.
The feature is designed for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have difficulty speaking. You do not need to intll anadditional app or connect a separate device.
How to enable RT

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Accessibility.

  3. Select RTT/TTY. Depending on your carrier, this may be listed as RTT, TTY or RTT/TTY.

  4. Turn on Software RTT.

  5. Enable Send Immediately if you want each character to appear while you type. Leave it disabled if you prefer to finish your message before sending it.

How to start an RTT call

  1. Open the Phone app.

  2. Go to Contacts and select the person you want to call.

  3. Tap the call button.

  4. Choose RTT/TTY Call.

  5. Wait for the call to connect and tap the RTT button.

  6. Start typing your message in the text field.

If Send Immediately is enabled, the other person will see every character appear in real time. Otherwise, tap the send button when your message is ready.
You can also turn on your microphone if you want to combine typed messages with your voice.

Good to know:
RTT is not supported by every mobile carrier or in every country. If you cannot find the option, your carrier may not offer it.
