How to See Your Smart Home Energy Usage in iOS 27
Did you know that iOS 27 can show the energy usage of compatible smart-home devices directly in the Home app?
If you have supported accessories that can measure their electricity consumption, such as certain smart plugs, iOS 27 can bring that information into the Energy section of the Home app. This makes it much easier to see how much electricity your smart-home devices are actually using.
Here’s how it works:
Open the Home app on your iPhone.
Make sure your compatible energy-monitoring accessory has already been added to your Apple Home.
Open the Energy section in the Home app.
Here you can see energy information provided by your supported devices.
Select a device to take a closer look at its energy usage.
Depending on the accessory and the information it provides, you can also see historical energy data and usage trends.
That’s it.
See which devices are using the most energy
This becomes especially useful if you have several smart-home accessories around your house.
Instead of only using the Home app to turn devices on and off, you can also get a better idea of how much electricity supported devices are consuming.
For example, if you use an energy-monitoring smart plug with an appliance, you may be able to see its energy usage inside the Home app. Apple’s new EnergyKit integration can also provide historical charts, activity information and monthly usage trends when supported. That could help you spot devices that are using more electricity than you expected.
Not every smart-home device will show energy usage
There is one important thing to know: this doesn’t automatically work with every HomeKit or Matter accessory.
The device or its accompanying app needs to provide compatible energy-consumption information to Apple Home. So if you don't see energy information for one of your devices, it doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with your iPhone. Support will depend on the accessory and manufacturer.
Apple is also expanding its EnergyKit framework so compatible apps and devices can provide the Home app with richer information, including historical charts, activity logs, monthly trends and whole-home energy usage.
I really like this addition because it turns the Home app into more than just a place to control your smart home. If you have several connected devices around your house, being able to see how much energy they’re actually using could be surprisingly useful.
