How to Undo Home Screen Changes in iOS 27

Accidentally moved an app or changed your Home Screen and immediately regretted it? iOS 27 now makes it easier to reverse certain Home Screen edits without manually rebuilding your layout.

How to undo a Home Screen change on iPhone?

  1. Make a change to your Home Screen, such as moving an app or changing the appearance of your icons.

  2. Gently shake your iPhone from side to side.

  3. When the confirmation message appears, tap Undo.

  4. Your most recent supported Home Screen change should be reversed.

Shake to Undo not appearing?

Make sure the gesture is enabled, it should be enabled by default:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select Accessibility.

  3. Tap Touch.

  4. Turn on Shake to Undo.

Return to your Home Screen and try the gesture again.

Can you redo the change?

If you undo something and then change your mind, shake your iPhone again. A Redo option may appear, allowing you to restore the change.

Using Undo and Redo on iPadOS 27

On an iPad running iPadOS 27, Apple provides dedicated controls and shaking your iPad will not work like on your iPhone:

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle.

  2. Make your Home Screen change.

  3. Enter editing mode again if you have already exited it.

  4. Tap the curved left arrow to undo the change.

  5. Tap the curved right arrow to redo it.

What changes can be undone?

The feature may work with changes such as:

  • Moving apps and widgets

  • Changing the appearance of app icons

  • Hiding or showing Home Screen pages

  • Certain other Home Screen customizations

Not every edit can be reversed. Wallpaper changes and some widget actions may not respond consistently.
