Apple announced the next-gen Apple TV 4K with Siri AI
Apple has unveiled the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, and this is far more than a routine processor upgrade. The new model brings Siri AI into your living room, adds hands-free voice control, delivers substantially faster performance, and introduces support for a four-speaker HomePod surround-sound system.
To me, Apple TV has always been one of the more polished streaming boxes on the market. With this generation, Apple is attempting to turn it into the intelligence and entertainment centre of the entire home.
Siri AI Comes to the Big Screen
The headline feature is a completely redesigned version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence.
Siri AI appears as a rich, full-screen interface that can help viewers find films and television programmes through natural conversation. Instead of remembering the exact title of something, you can ask broader questions about award winners, genres, actors or recommendations.
You can also ask follow-up questions without starting over. While watching a programme, for example, you might ask where it was filmed or whether its content is suitable for a teenager. Answers are displayed in a compact overlay so they do not completely cover what is happening on screen.
When used with an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, Siri can draw on personal context too. A request such as “Play the show Alinda recommended” could allow the Apple TV to identify the programme without you having to search through old messages yourself.
It sounds much closer to the conversational assistant Siri was always supposed to become.

You No Longer Need the Remote to Talk to Siri
Apple has fitted the new Apple TV 4K with three far-field microphones. This allows you to say “Siri” or “Hey Siri” directly to the Apple TV without holding the remote.
Advanced echo cancellation is designed to separate your voice from whatever is playing through the television or speakers. In theory, that means Siri should still hear you during a film, sporting event or noisy action scene.
Built-in microphones will inevitably raise privacy questions. Apple says microphone information is handled inside protected areas of the A19 chip called Secure Exclaves. These isolated environments process the data separately from tvOS, installed applications and the rest of the system.
A19 Brings a Serious Performance Boost
At the heart of the new Apple TV 4K is Apple’s A19 chip.
Apple claims CPU performance is up to 50 percent faster than on the previous generation, while graphics performance can be up to twice as fast. That should result in quicker navigation, smoother animations and a more responsive experience throughout tvOS.
The improved GPU could also make Apple Arcade and other App Store games more convincing on a television. Apple TV is still not a direct replacement for a PlayStation or Xbox, but the additional graphics power gives developers more room to create ambitious living-room games.
A dedicated AV1 decoder has also been added. AV1 can deliver high-quality video more efficiently, allowing supported streaming services to use less bandwidth without sacrificing as much image quality.

The Siri Remote Is Finally Harder to Lose
The Siri Remote keeps the familiar design of the previous model, but Apple has addressed one of its most obvious weaknesses: losing it between the sofa cushions.
The new remote supports Find My with Precision Finding. A compatible iPhone can guide you towards its location, while the remote can also play a sound to make it easier to find.
It is a relatively small improvement, but probably one that Apple TV owners will appreciate more frequently than some of the headline features.
Four HomePods Can Create a Surround-Sound System
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K can work with four compatible HomePod speakers to create Apple’s most advanced wireless home-theatre configuration yet.
The speakers recognise their positions in the room, allowing the Apple TV to calibrate their timing and volume levels automatically. You can use four HomePod mini 2 speakers or four second-generation HomePods.
A mixed setup is also possible, provided that the two speakers at the front match each other and the two rear speakers form another matching pair.
This could be an attractive option for people already invested in Apple’s ecosystem. It provides a cleaner alternative to a traditional receiver-and-speaker installation, although the final value will depend heavily on the combined price of all four HomePods.

I made this comparison sheet with the current 3rd gen Apple TV 4K.
My Take
The new Apple TV 4K is clearly the best way to experience Siri AI, but owners of the second- and third-generation Apple TV 4K will not be completely left behind. Apple says Siri AI will be available in beta on both older models through tvOS 27.2.
There will be some important differences, however. The third-generation Apple TV 4K has 4GB of memory, while the second-generation model is generally reported to have only 3GB. Siri AI should still work, but its more demanding features may feel slower or less responsive than on the new A19-powered model. Apple has not specifically promised that the older devices will become laggy, so this remains a performance concern rather than a confirmed limitation.
The older boxes also lack built-in far-field microphones. Their microphones are located in the Siri Remote, meaning users must pick up the remote and press its Siri button before speaking. The new Apple TV’s three built-in microphones provide a much more natural, completely hands-free experience from across the room.
Siri AI may therefore extend the life of older Apple TV 4K models, but it will not make them identical to the fourth-generation hardware. Faster processing and hands-free voice control are likely to make the new model feel considerably more complete.
